About The Department of Population and Behavioural Sciences
The Department of Population and Behavioural Sciences is an integral part of the Fred N. Binka School of Public Health, University of Health and Allied Sciences. The department has two units: Health Promotion and Population Studies. However, only the Health Promotion Unit is currently functional. Our core mandate is to promote health behaviors among individuals and communities. As such, we embark on community outreach programmes and school health talks to sensitize individuals, families and communities to adopt health lifestyle and shun unhealthy ones.
Our main goal is to empower individuals and communities to come to the recreational realization that they are in a better position to positively influence their own health. This, we aim to achieve by training the next generation of public health promotion professionals who will be equipped with theoretical, analytical and practical skills needed to assess individual and community needs and work with individuals and communities to find solutions to their health and social challenges. We also strive to conduct cutting-edge research that would inform teaching and learning, as well as addressing pressing societal issues through a collaborative approach. As part of our mandate, we engage in community service both locally and internationally, to bolster the frontiers of public health promotion.
