Dr. Awolu Adam is a lecturer and Acting Chair of the Department of Family and Community Health in the School of Public Health at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ghana. Dr. Adam teaches courses in the core public health disciplines at the undergraduate level and graduate level and coordinates MPH programs in the department. Dr. Adam’s research focuses on urban and rural health improvement and has done research in the areas of HIV/AIDS prevention education, HIV/AIDS stigma and social support, maternal and child health, gender and health. Dr. Adam recently earned Master of Science in Clinical Research Administration and interested in applying his knowledge and expertise in how technological innovations in health research can support health data management for health planning in urban and rural communities. Dr. Adam is currently a lead person for UHAS in UHAS-Ghana Health Service partnership on national scale up of Ghana Community-Based Health Service (CHPS) delivery which is technological and health data driven.
Education
Dr. Adam holds a PhD in Public Health and Master of Science in Clinical Research Administration both from Walden University, USA. He also obtained Master of Public Health (MPH) from West Chester University of Pennsylvania, USA. Dr. Adam obtained a class honors degree in Population and Family Life Education at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. Prior to all above, Dr. Adam was trained and registered as professional teacher at the Evangelical Presbyterian College of Education, Bimbilla.
Work Experience
Prior to joining the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Dr. Adam worked most part as educationist and mental /behavior health professional for more than 15 years. Dr. Adam has trained and worked as outpatient therapist and rehabilitation counselor for children and adults on the autism spectrum, attention deficit and hyperactive disorder as well as those diagnosed with conduct disorder in various settings in the US and helped improved health and quality of life of many individuals and families. Dr. Adam is a professionally trained teacher and taught as well as managed first and second cycle educational institutions in Ghana.
Research Interest
HIV/AIDS prevention education, HIV/AIDS stigma and social support, infant, child, and maternal health issues, social aspects of breast and cervical cancer, gender and health, cultural and religious influences on health, ethics of infant and mass immunization, reproductive health issues for rural folks. I am keenly interested in clinical research administration with focus on regulatory, ethical and factors driving willingness to participate in clinical trials.
