Daniel Kweku DZIDZONU is a lecturer with the Department of Health Policy Planning and Management, School of Public Health, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana. He is currently a PhD candidate in Health Economics at the Department of Health Services Research (HSR), Maastricht University, The Netherlands. His PhD research is investigating Chronic Care and Ageing among older people in Ghana.
Educational
Daniel holds a Bachelor of Education Degree in Mathematics from the University of Education, Winneba, Ghana and a Master of Philosophy Degree in Multicultural and International Education from the Oslo and Akershus University of Applied Sciences (formerly Oslo University College) in Norway; and a Master of Philosophy in Health Economics Policy and Management from University of Oslo, Norway. He also holds a Diploma in Statistics from the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economics Research (ISSER), University of Ghana, and a Teacher’s Certificate “A” from the St. Francis College of Education, Hohoe.
Work Experience
Prior to his appointment with the University in 2014, Daniel worked as a health and safety supervisor at JCDecaux Norge, an advertising company in Norway. He conducted regular seminars on safety regulations to production staff and assisted in quality control.
In addition to teaching and supervising undergraduate students’ dissertations, he contributed to undergraduate curriculum development, specifically the course Fundamentals of Health Economics, a course being taught as a core to third-year undergraduate students in the School of Public Health.
Daniel has served in past capacities in the School of Public Health as Registration/Examination Officer and as Acting Head, Department of Health Policy, Planning and Management. He was the maiden chairman of the committee that developed a 5-Year Strategic Plan (2014-2019) that culminated in the introduction of Access, Sandwich and Postgraduate Programmes (MPhil/MPH) in the School of Public Health. He teaches Fundamentals of Health Economics; Monitoring and Evaluation of healthcare programmes; Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety; and Management and Leadership of Health services in the School of Public Health.
Science/Research Output
His research interests include health insurance, healthcare financing and universal health coverage; monitoring and evaluating healthcare interventions, implementation research in health, healthcare needs of the vulnerable (elderly, women, children, prisoners), impact of digital health in healthcare systems (improving maternal health, and NCDs).
He is currently conducting his PhD research work in Ghana among elderly people regarding their access and utilization of health care services. Specifically, he is examining the experiences of elderly people and different stakeholders views/perceptions of formal and informal process of care, and how these dynamics influence health outcomes among the elderly in Ghana.
