DR. MARTIN A. AYANORE

martin a ayanwe

Dr. Martin Ayanore is a Senior Lecturer and Head, Department of Health Policy Planning and Management at the School of Public Health, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana. He is a trained health economist. He teaches courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in the School of Public Health.

Education 

He holds a PhD in Health Economics from Maastricht University, Netherlands, and MPhil and BSc degrees from the University for Development Studies, Ghana. He also holds an International Executive MBA in Project and Strategic Management from France. In relation to pedagogy, he holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Science Education from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana and a certificate in Problem Based Learning (PBL) from Maastricht University, Netherlands.

Work Experience

Dr Ayanore is a two-time John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Fall Fellow, with certified trainings in Problem Solving in Public Health and Implementation and Sustainability of Community Based Health Programs. From January 2014, he worked with one of Maastricht University’s largest Institutes; Care and Public Health Research Institute (CAPHRI). Under CAPHRI, he held a non-paid honorary appointment as a PhD Candidate in the Department of Health Services Research prior to his appointment with UHAS in 2016. He has extensive experience in the Non-Profit Sector in Ghana in the areas of program design and implementation on sustainable WASH solutaions. He also consulted for a number of NGOs working in health, nutrition and WASH. Dr Ayanore is a subject expert in health policy research.

Science/Research Output

His research interest includes; economic evaluation in health, ageing and health, inequalities in health, disease burden, health-related quality of life assessments, financing in health and health policy.

Dr Ayanore has more than 50 publications in high impact journals. His current publications are in the area of health financing, maternal and child health, disease burden and quality of life (QoL) among vulnerable population groups. He is an Associate Editor for BMC Public Health.
