PROF. ELVIS E. TARKANG

elvis tarkang Professor Elvis Enowbeyang Tarkang is an Associate Professor of Public Health Promotion and Head of Department of Population and Behavioural Sciences at the School of Public Health, University of Health and Allied Sciences.

Education

He holds a Ph.D in Health Studies (Social and Behavioural Aspects of HIV/AIDS, and Health Promotion) (2009) from the University of South Africa.

Work Experience

He Founded the Health Care Diagnostic Clinic (EL-Diagnostix), a medical centre for clinical diagnosis in Kumba, Cameroon in 1999 and was Director/CEO of the HIV/AIDS Prevention Research Network, Cameroon (HIVPREC), an NGO for HIV prevention through health promotion since 2011.  He is an Adjunct Lecturer at the Cameroon Christian University (CCU) since 2010 and a consultant with ILO on HIV/AIDS and the World of Work. He has examined several Ph.D and MPhil Theses in Health Promotion for various Universities and supervised many students in Public Health at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has also developed and taught several courses in Health Promotion.

Science/Research output and Research Interest

He is currently the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the Central African Journal of Public Health and the International Journal of HIV/AIDS Prevention, Education and Behavioural Sciences. He also serves as an Editor/ Reviewer for several peer-reviewed Journals. He is an Abstract Mentor for Conferences organized by the International AIDS Society (IAS) and also a Reviewer for the International Conferences for AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA). He has a body of scholarly works and publications in international peer-reviewed journals, Technical Reports, Conference Presentations and has developed Institutional HIV Policies for Municipalities and Agro-estates in Cameroon.

His areas of interest include: Social and Behavioural Aspects of HIV/AIDS and Public Health; Adolescent Sexual and Social Behaviours; Health Promotion; Institutional workplace HIV Policy Development; HIV and the World of Work; Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health.
