Dr. Francis Agyei is a psychologist. He is a lecturer with the Department of Family and Community Health (FCH), Fred N. Binka School of Public Health (FNBSPH), University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS). He teaches courses in psychology and mental health, including Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Community Mental Health, Social Determinants of Mental Health, Forensic, Legal, Human Rights and Ethical Issues in Mental Health, and Psychotherapy for Mental Health Workers. He also teaches graduate course in Human Growth and Development to Master of Public Health (MPH) students. He is part of the Counseling and Mental Health Team at the FNBSPH.

Work Experience
Dr. Agyei brings a cumulative and progressive wealth of experience in university teaching, coordination of academic research projects, as well as leading industry tracking and business development projects. Prior to joining the UHAS in October 2021, he held different research positions, including Research Coordinator, Working Group Member and Research Assistantship, working on several internationally funded projects with internationally accomplished researchers from Africa (Ghana, Kenya, South Africa), Europe (UK, Hungary, Canada, Germany), United States and Asia (Philippines, South Korea). He also held Graduate Assistantship positions at the University of Ghana, from 2015 – 2020, assisting senior academics in the teaching of MPHIL courses at the Department of Psychology, and a doctoral level course in Philosophy of the Social Sciences, in the College of Humanities. Both within his current university and other universities, he supervises, co-supervises, and examines undergraduate and graduate theses that cut across public health, social science, and business management.
Research Interest and Output
Dr. Agyei’s interdisciplinary research training and experience cuts across critical social, community and health psychologies. His multidisciplinary research experience also cuts global mental health, health system strengthening and implementation science. From this different research background, his research interests cohere into; i) building mental health competence of individuals and communities, ii) building non-communicable disease competence of individuals and communities, and iii) mapping multilevel drivers (mental) health system strengthening.
Across these research interests, has co-authored nine research articles in high-impact peer-reviewed international journals. He also serves as reviewer for two high-impact peer-reviewed international journals – Journal of Health Psychology (Sage Publication) and Scientific Africa (Elsevier Journals). He holds membership of; Ghana Psychological Association (GPA), America Psychological Association (APA), and International Society of Critical Health Psychologists (ISCHP).
