MARTIN A. ADJUIK

martin a adjuikMartin Alhassan Adjuik is a Statistician teaching at the School of Public Health, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Hohoe. He is currently teaching Data Management at the undergraduate level and Biostatistics and Statistical Computing at the post graduate level. He supervises undergraduate and post-graduate students’ project work. He has been the Acting Head of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics since August 2018. He also serves on several committees of the University.

Education

He had his Dip. Educ. and BSc (Maths) degrees from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana; and MSc (Biometry) from the University of Reading, United Kingdom.

Work experience

He worked as Statistician in INDEPTH Network Secretariat where he coordinated and led the analysis work related to the INDEPTH Effectiveness and Safety Studies (INESS) with specific tasks to support a team of statisticians from seven sites in four Africa countries to generate site- and country-specific data on safety and effectiveness of antimalarial drugs from 2009 to 2014. Before that from 1994 to 2009 he was the Statistician at the Navrongo Health Research Centre.

Science/research output

Martin has been involved in the SPH-UNICEF WASH project, a school-based hand washing project using the ‘tippy-tap’ intervention in basic public schools in the Volta Region of Ghana, a collaborative project between the School of Public Health and UNICEF, Ghana and the Ministry of Education, Volta Region.

He has supported efforts of co-scientists in the designing, data processing and analysis of research projects in The Navrongo Health Research Centre for many years. He trained research personnel in data management and analysis. He was the Statistician on a TDR-sponsored project on the trials to find out the efficacy and safety of combining Artesunate with standard long-acting anti-malarial drugs in the treatment of uncomplicated malaria. He was a Data Coordinator on the Mapping Malaria Risk in Africa (MARA) Project, an international collaboration that created a geographical information system (GIS) to integrate heterogeneous spatial datasets to produce a stratified risk map of the type and severity of malaria transmission in Africa in order to define the actual risk of malaria in Africa. These data have been collated and managed at the MRC in Durban, South Africa.

Research in tropical diseases: malaria, micro-nutrients, maternal and reproductive health, health services management, statistical analysis, meta-analysis, computing techniques, data management and Geographical Information Systems in health.
