Mr Gregory Kofi Amenuvegbe, is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Health Policy Planning and Management, School of Public Health of the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana. He coordinates and teachs on courses such as Public Health Programme Planning and Evaluation, Health Law and Ethics. He also teaches on the Foundations of Public Health Course at the Graduate level.
Education
He had his professional training in Diseases Control and Prevention in Kintampo College of Education. He had his first degree in Public Health, Masters in Public Health (MPH) and MPhil in Field Epidemiology all from the University of Ghana. He hold’s certificates in International Applied Epidemiology from Emory University, Atlanta Georgia and Applied Epidemiology from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.
Work Experience
Prior to his appointment with the University, he worked with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) as the Acting Chief Technical Officer Disease Control and Prevention in the Volta Region, Ghana. Mr Amenuvegbe worked for 15 years with the GHS, with expreince at the district, regional and national levels. In his previous work with the GHS, he played active roles in supporting deliver targeted health program interventions and supported to coordinate HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Polio and Guinea worm programmes in the Volta Region of Ghana. In addition to district and regional level support, he also assisted for 5 years to facilitate HIV Sentinel Surveillance (HSS) at the national level. Mr Amenuvegbe has had some international work experience in the area of disease surveillance and outbreak investigations. He had the opportunity to be trained in Atlanta Georgia, USA and later deployed to work in Sierra Leone with the World Health Organization (WHO) for a period of four months. Mr Amenuvegbe also has both local and international consulting experiences, having consulted on short-term basis for WHO country offices in the area of immunization.
Science/Research Output
Mr Amenuvegbe’s approach to teaching and training for students is based on his desire to create synergy between public health practice and research. He is currently a member of Rapid Emergency Response Team at the School of Public Health under Field Epidemiology Training program that provides assistance to national, regional and metropolis/districts in the event of any outbreaks in Ghana. His interest in research covers evaluation of diseases targeted for elimination and eradication.
