Eric Agboli is Assistant Research Fellow in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Public Health, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana and Laboratory Supervisor at the Research Laboratory of the School of Public Health. He also contributes to teaching in the areas of Pest and Vector Control, Biology for Public Health, Microbiology for Public Health, and Public Health Laboratory.
Education
Eric is currently pursuing his PhD in Germany on a DAAD scholarship. He had his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. His Master of Science degree was in Clinical Microbiology from the School of Medical Sciences, KNUST.
Work Experience
Eric worked as Biomedical Scientist in various health facilities in Ghana. He served as the Laboratory Mentor for the Ho Teaching Hospital Laboratory where he prepared the laboratory towards international accreditation with his expertise in Laboratory Quality Management Systems. He obtained this training through Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) sponsored programme. He was a site Coordinator for the Ghana Rotavirus project ‘Effectiveness of the monovalent rotavirus vaccine against severe rotavirus diarrhea in Ghana’ in the Volta Region.
Eric was the focal person on the bacteriology bench for the ‘Malaria Vaccine Research and Capacity Building’ (MAVARECA) project in Hohoe, Ghana. He was also the Field Research Coordinator for the ‘Quantifying Weather and Climate Impacts on Health in Developing Countries’ (QWeCI) project in Kumasi, Ghana. QWeCI project was a collaboration between KNUST and University of Liverpool (UK), sponsored by European Union (EU). On the QWeCI project, he supervised collection of mosquitoes from the various study sites. Eric was the Quality Assurance Manager on the project ‘Comparison of Ivermectin alone with Albendazole (ALB) plus Ivermectin (IVM) in their efficacy against Onchocerciasis in the Volta Region, Ghana’ sponsored by Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine, USA.
Science/Research Output
Eric’s passion is geared towards Mosquito Microbiome and Emerging Infections. Neglected Tropical Diseases, Vector Biology, Arboviruses, and Infectious Diseases are components of his research area. He has a number of scientific articles to his credit.
